How a Non-Profit Can Leverage the Power of Video

In Video by Brian Town

Hey there! It’s Jessica again, and today I want to talk to you about how a non-profit can really leverage the power of video.

I spent a few years working for a well-known non-profit, and one major takeaway I learned is how to engage potential and current donors.

Once you have formed a relationship with a donor, the communication doesn’t stop there. Part of good donor stewardship is re-engaging and involving your donors several times throughout the year. A really great way to work on that stewardship – and continue your relationship – is to show your donors what you’re doing in the field with a video. Let them see the impact their contribution is making!

We know you’re busy being the movers and shakers in your community, but this can be super easy. While you’re out at a site, have someone set up a camera and microphone. Or, in a pinch, you can even use your smartphone.

Place yourself in the action, say a quick hello, and tell them what you’re doing there. Take a moment to reflect on what you’re able to do because of the amazing support that you have. Remember, donors want to feel connected to what you’re doing, and video lets you bring them into your world.

The Homeless Angels are a street-based non-profit outreach in Lansing, Michigan.

This works well for volunteer and membership based non-profits, too, because you’re able to show volunteers in action. This elevates your current volunteers and lets future volunteers see what it’s like to work with you.

These videos can be posted to your blog, social media sites, and distributed through donor newsletters. You can piece them together to play at donor banquets. The point is, you’re already doing amazing work, and it just takes a quick second to really let your supporters see you in action.

And of course, if you need help with any of this, or you want to take it to the next level, we’re just a call away. A professionally-produced impact video can be a centerpiece for your website, connecting all visitors, donors, and partners to your mission.

Until next time …
